Svindinge

Svindinge ( swithing, an old Danish word for burn-beaten land)

Scenery around Svindinge.

Svindinge is a cozy and active village, lying in a beautiful countryside with waving fields, broad beeches and flowery meadows. The village pond, the church and the school creates an idyllic center in the village. The surrounding castles and many well-preserved old farms and houses are memoirs of times bygone.

The main road through Svindinge with the village pond.

Svindinge is a typical Funen village and bear the stamp of a long history under Glorup Manor. Earlier people lived by farming and local crafts but now many in the village get their income out of town. Nowadays we also have several immigrants living in the village, so the environment is becoming quite international.

The yearly flea-market in the school - The Glorupfestival.

For many years there have been a high level of common activities in Svindinge, with a lot of local societies. This homepage among other things is a result of this activity, as we have established a local group with this as one activity. Other results from this activity is a video about Svindinge (in Danish, can be purchased at the Svindinge Residents Council), a beautiful village pond, several new traditions in the course of a year as well as our "Glorup-festival" which happens every other year at Glorup Park. And all the time new projects turns up.

Glorupfest - Squaredance for all, and children entertains.

The local solidarity got a boost in 1992, where the municipal council closed down our local school. We bought the buildings an started our own private school which also functions as a local center for the village activities. There is still a  grocer in Svindinge and several local artisans plus a good garage. Surrounding the village there are still some farms, farming is living still!
